Conventional Accessible Service

All subway trains and buses (along with bus routes) used by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) are accessible, while newer streetcars are accessible and continue to replace old streetcars. 

Access to subway trains for customers who use wheeled mobility aids is provided at 34 of the TTC’s 69 subway stations. The accessible stations are indicated by the wheelchair symbol on the TTC subway map available on the TTC website.

Please verify prior to travel that the elevators at subway stations to be used in your journey are currently in service by checking the Elevators and Escalators section of the TTC website to obtain updated status information.

Subway trains feature level boarding and accommodate wheeled mobility aids. Accessible buses are equipped with an extendable ramp/lift, kneeling feature at front doors, and reserved wheelchair/scooter areas. Most buses are low-floor. Riders must be able to safely maneuver their mobility device.

Support Persons

Passengers requiring care when travelling are requested to travel with a support person. Under certain conditions, a support person is permitted to travel with a passenger requiring assistance, covered under the same fare. Wheeled Mobility Aids

TTC buses provide 2 spaces for wheeled mobility aids on each bus on a first come, first served basis. Buses can accommodate wheeled mobility aids up to:

• 122 cm (48 inches) in length
• 76 cm (30 inches) in width, and
• 300kg/660 lbs in weight (when occupied).

TTC subway trains provide 1 or 2 spaces for wheeled mobility aids on each train car on a first come, first served basis. Trains can accommodate wheeled mobility aids up to:

• 122 cm (48 inches) in length, and
• 76 cm (30 inches) in width.

Also, please verify prior to travel that the subway stations to be used in your journey have elevators and that they are currently in service.

While older TTC streetcars currently in service are not accessible for wheeled mobility aids, newer streetcars provide 2 spaces for wheeled mobility aids on each streetcar on a first come, first served basis. The newer streetcars are gradually replacing the older streetcars, and can accommodate wheeled mobility aids up to:

• 122 cm (48 inches) in length
• 76 cm (30 inches) in width, and
• 300kg/660 lbs in weight (when occupied).
