York Region Transit (YRT/Viva)

Service Overview

York Region Transit (YRT/Viva) is the municipal transit provider of bus services for York Region. More than 120 conventional bus routes and a bus rapid transit (BRT) system serve the nine York Region municipalities.

Viva is the BRT system, operating in the Highway 7 and Yonge Street corridors. To maximize speed, buses make use of existing or specially lengthened right-turn lanes bypass lineups at intersections, and of bus-only lanes and roads to avoid traffic. When behind schedule, they are given priority at traffic signals. Buses arrive every 10 to 15 minutes depending on the route. Outside of peak hours, buses arrive less than 15 minutes apart.

Connecting Transit Systems

YRT/Viva connects in the south with the Toronto Transit Commission’s (TTC’s) Downsview and Don Mills stations, Finch GO Transit Bus terminal (north of the TTC’s Finch subway station) and York University Campus in the south-west. It also connects to Newmarket GO Transit bus terminal in the north, Markham-Stouffville Hospital to the east and bus services in the Region of Peel to the west.
